Difficulties with achievement

Young people with ADHD, as well as adults with ADHD, really struggle with their self esteem and need lots of encouragement and motivation. This can range from taking part in school sports, their classroom work and their ability to stay out of trouble, at school especially.

Work with the school to make sure that school sports are sensitive to the young persons ADHD, waiting in line is no good at all, it causes frustration.
Contract with the child regarding their motivation, what do they want to do, and how can they be rewarded for doing other activities that maybe do not motivate them as much?
Be consistent with your part of any contract, if you say something will happen as a reward make sure it does and make sure it does straight away, ADHD youngsters do not like to wait for gratification, they need it NOW!
